As we started as a lab in August 2019, we were looking for a reliable and user-friendly online freezer inventory system. We surveyed a few and found them to either have complicated interfaces or be very costly. eLabInventory is a great blend of easy-to-use and cost-efficient. We use it daily to track and log our samples in our freezers, and would be lost without it. It is intuitive to search and find samples, or enter newly created samples into the system.

Nathan Singh, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Oncology

Singh Lab

Dr. Nathan Singh, Principal Investigator and Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Oncology in the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, established the Singh Lab in August 2019. It is a translational immunology research lab focused on improving immunotherapies for patients with blood cancer. Dr. Singh also attends the inpatient bone marrow transplantation and immunotherapy clinical services at affiliated hospitals and centers, including Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital and other locations across the St. Louis region.

Goal

Short-term goal: to investigate how chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) impact T cell biology and function.

Long-term goal: to develop enhanced therapies using CAR T cells for patients with cancer.

Challenge

To Log and Track Samples Reliably, Easily, and Inexpensively

As a new lab, Singh Lab needed to hit the ground running with a reliable online inventory system to organize the samples in our -80 freezers and liquid nitrogen. Most important was the ease of use, with a simple, intuitive user interface—but the cost was also vital. They would identify candidates through an online search, try them out online, and confirm that the vendor is solid and committed to supporting them through installation and beyond.

Solution

eLabNext Beats Others for Ease of Use and Cost Effectiveness

Singh Lab surveyed several online life science laboratory inventory software packages and found them to either have complicated interfaces or be very costly. eLab was a great blend of easy-to-use and cost-effective. The records are easily located by browsing (scrolling through) or entering a variety of search queries.

eLabNext software stood out against its competitors, with its fast and easy user interface, browsability, and low cost. The system was up and running in very little time—maybe 2 weeks.

Result

eLabNext Enables Robust, Reliable Research with Sample Tracking That Works

eLabNext logs and tracks every sample in our freezers—Singh Lab would be lost without it. If they didn’t know the contents and location of every sample tube they could not perform even the most basic research. Their work is intended to lead to basic discoveries about the biology of a novel class of “living drugs” for blood cancers, and inform the design of the next generation of cellular therapies that are safer, more efficient and more effective. eLabNext supports their quest.
